“No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.”Romans 8:37 (NLT)
Devotional Submitted by Janice Shaffer
Just before these words, Paul asks, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? He then lists trouble, hardship, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger.
Even though what we are experiencing in our part of Indiana is more inconvenience than hardship, we all know people who are facing some of the above-mentioned list. It’s hard to say, “I feel victorious,” when a loved one is lying in the hospital alone. It’s hard to say, “I feel victorious,” when you lose your job. It’s hard just to stay at home every day and feel victorious.
The good news is we don’t have to FEEL victorious. God through Christ has already won the victory, we simply have to claim it. We cling to the goodness of God, because none of these troubles can separate us from the love of God that we experience in Christ Jesus.
What makes you feel like giving up? What will you do about that? Don’t forget you have brothers and sisters who are here to help you carry your burden; to pray with you; to reassure you that, yes, Jesus cares. His heart is touched by your grief.
