“When Jesus saw her (Mary) weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. ‘Where have you laid him?’ he asked. ‘Come and see, Lord,’ they replied. Jesus wept. Then the Jews said, ‘See how he loved him.’”John 11:33-36 NIV

It seems that I have been preoccupied with this theme lately. In all honesty, don’t we sometimes wonder like Mary whether Jesus really cares? I know I do. Then I realize again the price he paid for me and see the examples of his caring in the Bible, and my question is answered.
I am going to share an old song that was first sung to me by an acquaintance of mine. I have never heard anyone sing it with such depth of feeling and the words have stuck in my head since I was a little girl. It’s called, “Does Jesus Care?”
Does Jesus care when my heart is pained too deeply for mirth or song? As the burdens press, and the cares distress, and the way grows weary and long?
Does Jesus care when my way is dark with a nameless dread and fear? As the daylight fades into deep night shades, does He care enough to be near?
Does Jesus care when I’ve tried and failed to resist some temptation strong; when for my deep grief there is no relief, tho’ my tears flow all the night long?
Does Jesus care when I’ve said “goodbye” to the dearest on earth to me? And my sad heart aches till it nearly breaks, is it aught to Him?
Does He see?
O yes, He cares!
I know He cares.
His heart is touched with my grief;
When the days are weary,
the long nights dreary,
I know my savior cares!(Frank E. Graeff/J. Lincoln Hall)
