But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees with his reply, they met together to question him again. One of them, an expert in religious law, tried to trap him with this question: “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?” Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” – Matthew 22:33-40 (NLT)
Some people are excellent in showing appreciation and love to other people. It can be a sweet note they drop in mail or a kind gesture of looking them in the eyes and saying, “Great job on your spelling test!” Even if you aren’t good at it, you can at least show a loved one love by grabbing a favorite fruit or beverage when they don’t ask you to. But showing God love is more difficult. He doesn’t need fruit. He has everything, so a gift wouldn’t work. It is harder to show God love but a few things we can do is to praise, thank, and worship him. Beyond that, Jesus gave us a “second” great command and by following it we can show God love by obeying him and loving others.
Does the way you interact with food service employees, coworkers, gas station attendants, etc., show God you love him? What are some other ways you can start to show God love by obeying this command? Who has God put on your heart to reach out and converse with?
